Boulder Samba School
- Promotes the rich heritage of Brazilian music, dance, and culture in Boulder, Colorado
- Founded in 2009, now a non-profit 501(c)3
- Offers Brazilian music classes, workshops, and performances
- Produces concerts with Brazilian artists touring the U.S., including Mestre Ailton Nunes, Mestre Eduardo Fuentes, Paula Santoro, Alessandro Penezzi, Casuarina, Moyseis Marques, Danilo Brito, Guinga, Monica Salmaso, Yamandu Costa, and Choro das 3
Bateria Alegria
- The BSS’ primary performing ensemble, under the direction of Carl Dixon
- 20 to 30-member volunteer ensemble that plays percussion-based styles of music from the samba schools and blocos of Rio de Janeiro and Salvador, Brazil
- Creates rhythms using at least eight different percussion instruments
- Offers beginning Brazilian music classes at least once a year
Performances
- Performs in small to large venues at least 10 times a year
- Draws hundreds of people from across Colorado to its performances
- Helps bring communities thousands of dollars in revenue from its major performances
